Mission Statement
The Hickory County Health Department was established for, and is committed to disease prevention and health promotion for all residents the county, by means of education, regulation, and direct delivery of health care services, so that all may reach their fullest health potential.
Health Services
We offer a variety of general health services including:
- Blood pressure checks
- Hemoglobin testing
- Blood sugar testing
- Tetanus shots
- Tuberculosis (TB) testing
- Lab work
Last year the Hickory County Health Department performed 1,307 blood pressure checks and 198 blood sugar tests.
Environmental Services
We offer a range of environmental services including:
- Water testing
- Septic permits
- Installer's registration
- Sanitation inspections
- Food and lodging inspections
- Child care inspections
- Rabies monitoring
Last year the Hickory County Health Department made 383 sanitation visits and issued 69 septic permits.

2005 Community Survey
In 2005, the Hickory County Health Department sent a 74-question survey to 4,500 residents to collect feedback on the environmental issues and concerns of the community. The survey gave the community a voice and enabled us to partner together to keep Hickory County a clean, economical and healthy place to live.
