What is Head Start?
Head Start is a comprehensive child development program serving children from birth to age five, pregnant women, and their families. Head Start welcomes children of all backgrounds, including those learning English as a second language or those who have special needs.
Head Start's purpose is to educate children in the classroom. Combined with parent education, Head Start enhances knowledge in the following areas:
- Child development
- Social-emotional development
- Health
- Mental health
- Disabilities
- Nutrition
- Life skills
- Literacy
- Job readiness
- Community resources
