Family Planning
Our family planning program includes the following services, many of which are provided by a physician or nurse practioner:
- Pap smears
- Breast examination education
- Breast cancer counseling
- Pre-pregnancy counseling
- Free birth control
Women's Health
Our Women's Health program provides services for women beyond childbearing age (over 52) who still need yearly exams and nutritional counseling.
Last year the Hickory County Health Department hosted 771 Women's Health visits.
Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
WIC is a nutrition education, health promotion and supplemental food program to assist women, infants and children who have nutritional needs. Good nutrition will help provide the best possible start in life and is a necessary ingredient for you and your child to grow up healthy and strong. WIC benefits include:
- Free nutrition education and guidance for you and your children
- Free breastfeeding education and support
- Free nutritious foods like milk, cheese, infant formula, cereal and eggs to supplement your diet
- Free referrals for health care
Last year the Hickory County Health Department hosted 2,002 WIC visits.
